Since the early days of railways there have been a number of high quality carriage and wagon builders. One of the most respected companies was the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company Limited which was founded in 1860. GRCW products were sent all over the world as well as for the home market. Makers plates were often in the shape of a 'G' and made from cast iron or brass.
